To Be Honest

In the etch a sketch of your existence
there will be choices, when
to take a full crank turn
when to soften the left-right gyrations,
a hand-in-hand dance with intuition
turning your wheels in opposite directions
in search of shapes and contours coursing
through the jazzy sand.

Let nothing dare prepare you
and spoil that exploration,
embrace, instead
the musty maybe sense in experiencing
authentic autonomy, awaken
from within the frame at the humble feet
of that claw foot mirror
conjured in conversation
who do you see

across the table
tonight, tomorrow,
are you looking for yourself in a smile,
for an excuse to shake it all away
or could you follow back the lines
to where this doodle started
re/turning the dials to release the tension
and enjoy again that child-like joy,
choosing with unburdened intention
just because you can
